Up-cycled: Stacked, Stitched & Sewn
Up-cycled: Stacked, Stitched, and Sewn: Using recovered house and studio material waste, I work with lines, as a window in to the imagination. In essence I see a visual library in the worn stacked paper and used cloth, that is void of written text, yet rich in a language, made sense by our physical touch. These materials trigger memories of a time when the land’s imprint on our lives was more commonplace and when materials, including cloth, was an integral part of our daily lives. Harvesting materials in the environment fostered a connection between our lives and our reliance on plant and earth-based materials, where the influence of the hand’s touch surrounded us. I also use a traditional Korean method, involving hand-stressing with water, that turns paper in to a stronger more durable cloth-like material.
